James L. Rubart

is 28 years old, but lives trapped inside an older man's body. He thinks he's still young enough to water ski like a madman and dirt bike with his two grown sons. He’s the bestselling author of sixteen novels and is the only speculative author ever inducted into the Christy Hall of Fame. He loves to send readers on mind bending journeys of spiritual freedom they’ll remember months after they finish one of his stories. He's also a branding expert, audio book narrator, and co-owner, with his son Taylor, of The Rubart Writing Academy. He lives with his amazing wife on a small lake in eastern Washington.


In person & Virtual

A limited number of people will be able to attend the Winter Writer's Retreat in-person. Our target is around 25 but there is room to grow if needed. For virtual attendees, the event will be videotaped and rebroadcast as a virtual event with a different schedule than the live event. This will allow for a more seamless experience for our virtual attendees. Although the teaching content will be recorded it will be uploaded quickly after the live presentation and facilitated by a live host!

Attendee Registration

  • This virtual event will follow a slightly different schedule than the live event for the purpose of providing the most ideal virtual event we can devise! It will take place the same weekend and very soon after each live session has ended. You will also have a live host to facilitate the virtual event!

We are very excited to work with Sandy Cove Ministries for our retreat this year! If you are registered to attend in person please choose your rooming preference below. No further action will be required on your part to make a reservation. We will take care of everything! We are limiting the number of single room options due to the fact that it will reduce our overall capacity for in-person attendance. If single rooms are sold out and you still want one I encourage you to register at that level and join the waiting list. Once we achieve the minimum attendance we need we may begin to open up more single rooms as we are able and you will be first in line.

Check in is at 4 pm on Thursday, February 16th. The first session will begin after dinner on Thursday. If you find that travel plans necessitate a Wednesday arrival we will be managing that on a case by case basis in the special event community hosted in the RealmSphere. Check-out is after breakfast on Monday morning Feb 20th.

All rooms are in a recently renovated wing of the Chesapeake Lodge.

  • All rooms have one queen bed, two (or three) extra-long twin beds with 3-inch memory foam toppers on all beds, a table and chairs. It has a full bathroom with a tub/shower, toilet, and sink. 11 meals are included.

CANCELLATION POLICY
In the event you discover you cannot attend this event after you’ve registered, the following refund policy will apply:

More than 60 days prior to the event: full refund, less a 10% processing fee
30-59 days prior to the event: 50% refund
Less than 30 days prior to the event: non refundable, but you may transfer your registration to another attendee. You are responsible for finding the individual to whom you wish to transfer your registration and informing the registrar of the change.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY
In consideration for being allowed to participate in this Realm Makers event, I release from liability and waive my right to sue Realm Makers, their employees, officers, volunteers and agents (collectively “Realm Makers”) from any and all claims, including claims of Realm Makers’ negligence, resulting in any physical injury, illness (including death) or economic loss I may suffer or which may result from my participation in this event, travel to and from the event (including air travel), or any events incidental to this Event.
